When temperatures soar, relief can be found by focusing on the calendar.
Six months ago, we faced record low temperatures. Six months from today, this summer's record heat will be a thing of the past. Does that help? Probably not. Stay cool out there.
The image featured here is the second waterfalls of the three that comprise Brasstown Falls in Upstate South Carolina.
On the January day this image was snapped, the thermometer wasn't able to climb above the middle teens and had been that way for about a week.
The water was still flowing, but mist was clinging to rocks at the base of the falls. It's amazing, but with low humidity there was little ice on the highway or the trail leading to the falls. Luckily, I was able to stand on a ledge above the falls, missing any risk of mist accumulation.
This might not help with heat relief today, but at least it shows that relief will come.
